Hello! My name is Laura Walters, I am thrilled to continue to serve Pike Road Schools Family! Originally from Ohio, I moved down South to attend the University of Alabama where I earned my degree in Music Education. I am certified to teach K-12 band, orchestra and choir. I started teaching at G.W. Carver High School in Birmingham, AL were I taught high school strings for three years. My husband and I moved to Montgomery in 2016 where I taught band and strings at Baldwin Magnet School and Booker T. Washington Magnet School for four years. I have been an instructor with the Pike Road Patriot Marching Band since it's inception. I am excited to continue this year as the Assistant Band Director under Patrick Darby's leadership. This year we have started a new music curriculum which consists of string instruments; violin, viola, cello and bass. This is currently offered to any C7-C12 learner. I am very passionate about teaching instrumental music because I believe it is a vehicle to help all learners practice the most important life skills such as hard work, tenacity, intrinsic motivation, punctuality, commitment and determination. My hope is to instill the love and appreciation of music in all of my learners so that they will grow up to continue performing and advocating for the arts!
